Pet Supplies, Dog, and Food.
Owning
a dog can be very rewarding, but there are many responsibilities that
come along with ownership. Pets rely on their owners for all aspects
of their care including feeding, health care and housing. Every dog
requires his own individual brand of care, no two dogs are alike. What
will work for one dog will not always work for another, which is why
it is so important for owners to make informed decisions about the care
of their dog and the supplies they use.
Dog food is the most important element in caring for a dog and maintaining
its health. The kind of food needed depends on a few variables. Age
is a very important consideration; puppies need special food that is
high in protein and nutritionally dense. Puppy food won’t work
for an older dog because this supplies the animal with high calories
and can lead to obesity in mature dogs. Older pets need a balanced food
that provides nutrients essential for energy, joint support, and a long
life.
Safety is another important consideration. Most pets require some outdoor
exercise and a well maintained fence if a yard is available is important.
If a yard is not accessible it is important that a safe and reliable
leash is used. Choke chains should not be used for day to day walking.
Retractable leashes are only recommended for small dogs because of lack
of control. A good leash will not be made of cord or rope, look for
flat leather or nylon.
Dog collars are essential. It’s vital that a dog can be identified,
so if lost, the animal will have a chance of making it home. The collar
should not be too tight or too loose. The tags should have basic information
on them including an address and phone number.
Some supplies are more controversial than others, such as dog clothing.
Some believe that this is cruel and humiliating for the animal. The
only known benefit would be providing warmth for the thin skinned breeds
such as Chihuahuas and Greyhounds. If clothing is purchased make sure
there are no small pieces for the pet to choke on. Also check that the
fit is comfortable and never force the animal to wear it if he appears
uncomfortable.
Now to the fun part, Dog toys. Toys are an important part of canine
development. There are many benefits if the right items are chosen.
Some playthings are purely for exercise- like a flying disc for example.
These toys encourage your pet to chase and run. Other items like chew
toys can be good for oral health make sure the item is a safe material
and free from small parts that can cause choking. Overall mental development
depends on playtime. Make sure to give your furry friend plenty of stimulation
to guarantee a happy animal.
There are a variety of other supplies available to dogs. Beds are a
welcome addition to the home and most pets will love a cozy place to
curl up. Grooming supplies are also needed to keep their coats shiny
and manageable. Keep in mind that most grooming products can be used
on cats or dogs but this does not make all supplies interchangeable.
The love you receive from a dog will be unconditional and everlasting.
It is important to understand that owning a pet requires time, some
money, and patience but the rewards are great. A little knowledge will
go a long way to ensuring a happy, healthy animal.
